Exemplary Lesson Plans
What makes a lesson plan exemplary?
Exemplary lesson plans are lessons that are transformational. These lesson plans require planning ahead to make sure that all areas are covered and efficiently executed. They are grounded in the teaching standard/curriculum and include all personality/learning types. They will be highly engaging and collaborative. Students will have clear objectives, goals and will have the opportunity/choice to determine how they can best meet the expected outcomes.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
June 4, 2020
This lesson plan is for high school English students ranging from grades 9 - 12. This was chosen for it's holistic approach and cross subject connections. It provides students with background information on Freud's psychoanalytical theory prior to the reading of the story. It then allows the students to story board the story and work collaboratively. Further, different versions of the film will be critiqued. Lastly, there is an extended section which connects other stories such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to the theme.
Pairing Fiction With Poetry and Performance
June 12, 2020
This lesson plan was chosen as it can be used for both English second language learners and for a standard high school English class. It incorporates researching, performing, reading, writing and discussing poetry/writing as well as inspiring critical thinking. Students must analyze different genres, writing styles and methods while also performing the author's work with their own twist.

Frederick Douglass, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave
June 16, 2020
This is an exemplary lesson plan as it is very thorough and combines history with literature. It also encourages critical thinking and discussion. It is geared towards an 8th grade middle school audience. The students are to not only read and understand what Douglas is describing, but also to analyze his diction and the emotional context. I believe that this lesson plan encourages the students to dig deeper.
